Kekri and Dia de los Muertos
Thematic Dinner

1.11.25
18-20

The food
We will be diving into the flavours of another country, Mexico.
On this day it is customary for Mexicans to bring food to cemeteries to offer their beloved ones. It is an act of peace and sharing.
We will not only go to the most widely known recipes like enchiladas, but mostly discover the traditional dishes for this specific day, like pico de gallo, chilaquiles or the famous pan de muerto (bread of the dead).

The traditions
With our International Thematic Dinners we aim to have a better understanding of other cultures, not only through food but through stories and objects.
Flowers, skulls, picture frames and vibrant colours, are all recknowned aspects of the Mexican culture and this cherished day.
The crafty curious dinners can join us in building flower head bands (materials provided).

The Common Ground between cultures
It is a vast world out there. People have different cultures and beliefs, yet it is often possible to find common things.
That is what happens with this theme.
Long, long ago in Finland the harvest celebrations were shared with the beloved ones long departed. Ghosts were invited to sauna but also to dinner. A set table was always put for the dead, just as in Mexico.
If you are willing to, do bring your family delicacy heritage or a beloved one favourite food for our common table in a honouring way to their spiritual presence in your life.
